Seven Days In June - Tia Williams ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Ah, yes. One of my all-time favourite romances.
Reader, if you haven’t dug into the romance genre yet, it can be pretty fluffy. But a lot of the time that’s half the fun. It’s exciting, it’s feel-good, and you don’t have to think too hard about it.
This was the first time I had read a romance with the stakes a notch higher, and it did NOT disappoint. Content warnings here include self-harm, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, attempted suicide, and child abuse.
And maybe it’s because I’m a sucker for a book with dark themes, but I really like that these characters were going through some tough shit. Some actual tough shit, and they found solace in each other.
It followed a common romance trope (second-chance lovers) and the two main characters, Eva and Shane had a shot at love in their earlier years. I think the main characters’ personal healing and reuniting was really satisfying. I was truly invested and rooting for them.
The steamy scenes were great! Williams is such a smooth writer. The build-up and anticipation is exactly what you’re looking for, and the “after all this time” vibe was a great driver for an intense setting.
The last thing I’ll mention is it’s funny. Like laugh-openly-at-a-coffee-shop funny. Eva’s daughter in particular is such a smartass. She really stole the book over with the best lines.
Dark, funny, sexy AND beautiful? You really can’t go wrong. It’s the perfect combo. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Tia Williams is a real one.
