Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow - Gabrielle Zevin ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Yeah, so this is another one where I’m thinking… Why was there so much hype?
Some of the concepts were really enticing. Two best friends bond from childhood over their love of video games and grow up together to be some of the most successful video game producers of all time? Hell yeah.
It would be extra cool if either one of those main characters were likable. I’m only asking for one! I don’t even need them both to be!
There was so much “Does he/she like me?” back and forth, which would’ve been solved had they communicated openly. The two main characters also had a major falling out that took up quite a chunk of the book, which stemmed from an assumption/miscommunication from a small action. Which again, could’ve been rectified easily if they just… TALKED. What a concept.
I would expect the “wish we would’ve just talked to each other” plot rift in a YA or 9-12 book, but a full-blown adult fic? Please. It was such a juvenile way to move the story along.
The side characters, though, I did enjoy. There’s a douchebag professor who was diabolical enough to at least make me feel something and a third main friend in the video game producer group. People give that one a hard time for being a bit of a golden retriever NPC but hey, at least he was much less of a whiner than the main two characters.
I liked the pacing and the build-up of the success story, but I couldn’t get behind these characters and their goofy choices. ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 I’d only rec if you have FOMO and don’t mind hate-reading stuff.
